Ubuntu, Tuesday, June 23rd, 2026
Canonical Livepatch now supports Arm64, delivering critical kernel security fixes without reboots.
Canonical announced that Canonical Livepatch now officially supports the Arm64 architecture, letting Ubuntu systems on Arm64 apply critical kernel updates without service interruption or reboots. Support begins with Ubuntu Core 26 for Arm64 and Ubuntu Core 20 onward for AMD64 machines.
The milestone required years of cross-industry effort to overcome technical barriers such as reliable kernel stack traces and native compilation infrastructure.
The capability strengthens security for devices that are not patched frequently and supports compliance with emerging cybersecurity regulations, extending live patching across more hardware architectures.
