FIDO Alliance and HID Study Reveals Major Gap Between Identity Security Confidence and Reality
Professional Security Magazine, Monday, June 22nd, 2026
A FIDO Alliance and HID study finds enterprises' confidence in identity security far exceeds their capabilities.
A joint FIDO Alliance and HID survey of 500 IT and cybersecurity leaders found 94 percent claim they can revoke all employee access within 24 hours, yet 35 percent failed to do so in the past two years.
Overall, 70 percent experienced at least one identity-related incident, and only 50 percent unified reporting ownership for physical and digital identity.
Enterprises manage an average of three credential systems, with 58 percent reporting increased complexity.
The public sector fared worst, with 43 percent reporting access revocation failures.
Despite 93 percent adopting passkeys, only 13 percent deployed them at scale.
