In the AI Age, How Can HR Stay Human?

HR Dive, Tuesday, June 23rd, 2026

A SHRM26 speaker urged HR to prize authentic human intuition over dependence on AI.

At SHRM26, leadership expert Alison Jones offered a counterpoint to AI hype, advocating that HR prioritize authentic intelligence, or human intuition, over dependence on AI.

She proposed five core concepts to keep HR human: awareness of emotional cues, acceptance of workforce emotions, authenticity in championing independent thinking before deploying AI, abundance in recognizing employee potential, and appreciation through personalized recognition.

While acknowledging AI's uses such as flagging career milestones and personalizing communications, Jones stressed that HR must double down on what makes us human.

Her measured view contrasted with the conference's broader emphasis on AI-driven transformation.
