Security expert Robert RSnake Hansen argues it is time for a CISO code of ethics to ensure security chiefs are not engaged in self-dealing that could risk enterprise and even national security.

He proposes a standardized place where all CISOs can sign an ethics agreement.

Signatories would either stop practices not aligned with the code or face public accountability.

The proposal reflects how the CISO role has expanded from cyber defense into business resilience, national security, brand protection, compliance, and corporate trust.
