NIST Opens Updated IoT Security Guidance to Public Review

NIST released a draft update of its IoT security guidance for federal systems and is taking public comment until August 24.
NIST published the initial public draft of SP 800-213 Revision 1, which sets cybersecurity requirements for IoT products in federal government systems.
The update reflects technical and operational changes over the past five years.
It builds on SP 800-213A, which catalogs IoT cybersecurity capabilities.
The guidance stresses that IoT products are system elements that must be included in the risk management process.
The public comment period runs through August 24, 2026.
