BOFH: Amnesty Means Never Having to Say You're Sorry

The Register, Friday, June 26th, 2026

The BOFH and PFY use an equipment amnesty day to dump broken gear and scheme insurance fraud, snaring their boss.

An annual amnesty day lets users confess equipment damage without retribution.

The BOFH and PFY exploit it to redistribute broken gear to low-visibility areas or unpopular managers.

They plot to stage a storage fire to fake insurance claims for missing equipment.

The boss objects to the fraud.

The scheme backfires when he is handed one of the damaged laptops, complete with a broken HDMI cable and other faulty kit, trapping him into approving the amnesty.
