NVIDIA detailed how Firefly Aerospace will deploy NVIDIA Jetson edge AI technology on its Blue Ghost Mission 2 lunar lander, marking the first time the platform operates in lunar orbit.
Rather than transmitting massive volumes of raw data back to Earth, the Ocula imaging service will run AI algorithms directly in space to process insights and downlink only relevant information in near real time.
This approach dramatically reduces latency and downlink costs compared with traditional methods that required weeks or months of terrestrial processing. The mission showcases edge AI for autonomous space operations.
