Open-Source 'OpenAN' Launched by Huawei and Partners
Open Source For You, Friday, July 3rd, 2026
Huawei and telecom partners launch OpenAN, an open-source framework for autonomous network deployment.
Huawei and eight founding members officially released the OpenAN open-source project on June 30, 2026, targeting Level 4 Autonomous Networks for Communication Service Providers.
The framework aims to slash integration costs and accelerate automated, agent-based AI network deployments by addressing inconsistent standards and low component reusability.
Led by China Mobile as project Chair and supported by the Linux Foundation Networking, it provides out-of-the-box components including a Registry Centre, Orchestration Centre, and A2A-T SDK. The architecture automates smart linking, agile deployment, large-scale collaboration, and deterministic execution while supporting secure on-premises deployment to protect sensitive infrastructure.
