Citrix Now Lets You Run Virtual Desktops Like a Cost-Conscious Private Equityeer

The Register, Thursday, June 18th, 2026

Citrix launches DaaS Flex to help organizations cut PC upgrade costs via cloud-based virtual desktops.

Citrix productized an internal cost-analysis tool as DaaS Flex, a service designed to optimize desktop infrastructure spending.

The offering begins with an assessment of an organization's endpoint fleet, identifying underutilized or inappropriately specified machines. Rather than expensive hardware refreshes, Citrix recommends user "personas"-templates for task workers, knowledge workers, and power users-that might involve full cloud PCs, managed browsers, or published applications.

The company runs these virtual desktops on Azure using a credit-based pricing model tied to multi-year contracts, absorbing costs if usage exceeds budgeted hours. Plans include expanding to other cloud providers and on-premises platforms, plus a channel version.
